1934 WILFRED GRENFELL. Neatly Autographed Letter by Important Mission to Labrador
Wilfred Grenfell [1865-1940] was one of the most important missionaries of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Affiliated with the higher life movement at Keswick, he attended medical school in London and departed to found missions in Newfoundland in 1892. He worked among the Inuit and other indigenous people, establishing hospitals, providing medical training, establishing businesses led by and run by the Inuit to generate income, etc. His work was so successful medically, that it served as the backbone of much medical care in Newfoundland and Labrador until the 1980's.
He was the author of some 20 books, some biographical, on missions, and on the higher life offered by Jesus.
Single page, typed letter, autographed neatly in the hand of Wilfred Grenfell.
Datelined April 17, 1934, addressed to Lord Noel-Buxton replying that he appreciates Lord Buxton's willingness to serve on the committee and that he will not be required to do any additional work. Nice, single page framing example.
