A very early and desirable work by Mexican artist, Celia Calderon [1921-1969].

Born in Guanajuato, she entered the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plascitcas in 1942 and then at the Escuela de las Artes del Libre under Francisco Diaz de Leon. Unusually for a Mexican artist of the time, she then received a scholarship to attend the Slate School of Fine Art in London, where she was invited to travel to China to study and exhibit at the Beijing Artists' Center.

Her final residence was General Molinos del Campo No. 53 in Tacubaya, where she committed suicide while working at the Academy of San Carlos.

Her work, cut short, has been praised by influential Mexican art historian, Justino Fernandez. Deeply rooted in both Latin modernism and tradition, her works today are increasingly sought with excellent examples appearing at Sotheby's and other major auction venues globally.
