This is a truly fascinating and nearly iconic little treasure; the family Bible of Frank Capra [1897-1991], director of one of the most celebrated of all Christmas movies, It's a Wonderful Life.
The present very attractively preserved volume was gifted to Capra by long-time friends Jim and Lena Phelps, residents of the San Luis Rey, Bonsall, Fallbrook area of California where Capra also lived at the time. The Phelps had moved there in 1937, along with their daughter, Jimmy, who went on to become an influential Christian educator at the local level and as a long-time professor at San Diego Christian College.
Capra of course was by then an academy award winning director and renowned for integrating his faith seamlessly into his films, including Meet John Doe and It's a Wonderful Life .
The Holy Bible. Family Circle Edition. c.1950's / 1960's.
Very nicely preserved in original yapp edge binding. Not only a wonderful collectible, but the idea of reading the Christmas Story from Capra's own Bible and then watching It's a Wonderful Life seems like a "wonderful" family tradition in the making.
