A superb post-impressionist oil on canvas over board by Michigan artist, Cornelius Van Fulpen [1905-2018]

Born in the Netherlands in 1905, Cornelius VanFulpen immigrated to Kalamazoo, Michigan with his family in 1921.  He was hired the same year, at sixteen years of age, to paint for the Kalasign Company [1921-1928]. He then worked for the Thompson Sign Company and later [1929] the Bryant Company. He worked there as a professional sign painter until his retirement in 1970.

For the entirety of his life, he painted in the evenings and on weekends, and exhibited regularly. In the early 1930’s he joined the Palette and Chisel Club, where he worked with Ulfert Wilkie and Karl Priebe. Van Fulpen's paintings of the club in action remain valuable historical records of the group.

The work itself measures 20 x 24 inches unframed. 23.25 x 27.25 inches framed. Very good state.
