A superbly preserved assemblage of works from the "Canterbury Poets" series published by Walter Scott of London. Issued in a cloth edition for the trade, a small number of works from each book in the series were apparently retained by the publisher and transferred to the auspices of the fine bindery, John & Edward Bumpus of London. The works were there bound, each in a delicate Arts & Crafts design limited edition quarter vellum binding. Single examples from the limited editions are desirable and an assemblage like the present extremely scarce on the market.

Each of the present examples by descent from their original owner.

Very good in quarter vellum with morocco title and tailpieces, each with subtle floral gold tooling to spine. The boards all in harmonically multi-toned linen. Textually very good with only minor foxing. Some light rubbing and bumping, linen boards a bit handled. Two of the volumes with small black markings to the vellum spines as shown.
