An absolutely beautifully produced one-off example of Heritage Press' fine 1945 imprint of the Federalist Papers bound as a presentation apparently for a soldier's return from World War II. The binding, not a production and not executed on any other example we can locate, was done by Bennett Book Studios of New York in full blue calf with raised bands and an elaborate series of onlays and variously colored tooled areas, neatly titled under the Statue of Liberty, "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!"
A truly unique example.
Various Authors. The Federalist or The New Constitution. Papers by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Jay. Together with and Appendix Which Contains the Articles of Confederation and the Federal Constitution. With and Introduction by Carl Van Doren. New York. The Heritage Press. [DATE]. 623pp.
A very good copy, bound in leather with a very small chip at the head of the spine; otherwise very solid and clean, with bright and clean pages.
