1915 THE CLANSMAN - KKK. Rare Original Program for 1915 Opening of "The Most Controversial Film Ever Made."
Very desirable 1915 original program for D. W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation, based on The Clansman by Thomas Dixon Jr. It has been called "The Most Controversial Film Ever Made," was wildly popular even in 1915, and many historians believe was a significant moment in the re-emergence of the Ku Klux Klan in the years that followed. It is essentially a pro-South revisionist history following "Lost Cause" lines of thought.
An inferior copy sold at Heritage Auction for a good bit more than our asking price.
