1912 JOHN ALEXANDER DOWIE. The Personal Letters of John Alexander Dowie. Flat-Earth Provenance!
1912 JOHN ALEXANDER DOWIE. The Personal Letters of John Alexander Dowie. Flat-Earth Provenance!
A very rare first edition of the Personal Letters of John Alexander Dowie. Scarce in the trade with none we can trace at the time of cataloging and none in the auction records.
Fascinating insight into one of the most influential characters in the emerging Pentecostal movement, divine healing, etc.,
The present copy belonged to Anton Darms and is signed by him on the ffep. Darms was one of Dowie's "Apostles" in Zion, a frequent contributor to Leaves of Healing, an Overseer in the Catholic Apostolic Church of Zion, advocate of Divine Healing, and author of 50 Questions Regarding the Shape of the Earth. The work was meant to demonstrate the Scripture taught the earth was flat, a position advocated by his friend and fellow Zionite, Wilbur Glenn Voliva [perhaps the best known flat-earther of the era].
Sheldrake, Edna [Ed.]. The Personal Letters of John Alexander Dowie. Zion City Illinois. Wilbur Glenn Voliva. 1912. 350pp.
A good + copy, bound in cloth with minor rodentia at the top edge. Generally solid, with generally bright pages, and moderate ink marks in a modern hand.
