Very fine autograph of Joseph Wolff (1795–1862), a remarkably eccentric and intrepid German-Jewish convert to Christianity who became an Anglican missionary, famously known as the "Bokhara Traveller."

Driven by an intense millenarian zeal, he journeyed extensively across Europe, Asia Minor, Persia, India, and Central Asia to preach the Gospel to Jewish, Muslim, and Eastern Christian communities, while searching for the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. His most famous and perilous expedition occurred in 1843 when he traveled deep into the Emirate of Bokhara (in modern-day Uzbekistan) at extreme personal risk to ascertain the fate of two British officers, Colonel Charles Stoddart and Captain Arthur Conolly, an exploit that he detailed in widely read memoirs that cemented his legacy as a legendary 19th-century adventurer and evangelist.

Likely clipped from an autograph album. As follows,

Joseph Wolff, Missionary for Palestine an Persia.
